What Happens Post-Omicron?

By the end of December of 2021, the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was tearing its way through the United States and around the world. The number of cases reported on a daily basis was orders of magnitude higher than the new cases at the height of the pandemic in April of 2020. The difference between the original virus and Omicron was that since Omicron was so contagious and infected so many people at once, it burned out much faster than any other variant of the disease. A month after Omicron peaked, the daily infection numbers are back down to pre-Omicron numbers.

With the Omicron surge behind us, people are once again talking about getting back to their lives, getting back to their offices, going on vacation, and loosening the restrictions they have placed upon themselves.

Even when the pandemic is declared to be over, COVID-19 is still going to be around. Besides COVID, other viruses such as influenza and conjunctivitis are also out there.
